Emergency Shelter

The Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Center’s confidential and secure safe shelter provides families and individuals a temporary safe haven from violence.

At the Bernard House, we strive to ensure clients seeking emergency safe shelter receive quality of care in a safe and trauma informed manner that provides tranquility and opportunity for healing.

The Bernard House has 12 bedrooms, each with a private bathroom and a large closet with lockers to safely store personal belongings. Each bedroom can accommodate 2 to 6 individuals based on family size and needs. The shelter’s accommodation maximum capacity is 48 individuals. The Bernard House also has a large laundry room, commercial kitchen amenities, children’s play room, and several common areas.

The shelter allows victims the opportunity to take the necessary steps to recover, heal and be free from abuse and violence. We have on-site shelter advocates who support each individual and family in regaining their lives apart from fear, violence and control. Case management is tailored to the unique needs of the individual which may include employment or education assistance, referrals for legal assistance, referrals for counseling, and finding a permanent housing solution.
