The Center Received a $20,000 Mary Kay Grant

LOCAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE & SEXUAL ASSAULT CENTER RECIEVES $20,000 GRANT FROM MARY KAY FOUNDATION.

Murfreesboro, Tenn. – Our local Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Center has been awarded a $20,000 grant by The Mary Kay Foundation. The grant awards were announced during an influential and meaningful month, October; National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, in which the foundation released they were giving out 2 million dollars in grants Nationwide. Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Center was chosen to receive one of the annual grants to further our organization’s efforts to combat domestic violence and provide healing and protective services throughout the Rutherford County community. This year’s highly-sought after grant slate brings the total investment in The Foundation’s annual shelter grant program to nearly $52 million.

Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Center will use the $20,000 grant to further the center’s efforts to protect victims, prevent violence, and empower survivors. The funds will be used to ensure clients seeking emergency safe shelter receive quality of care in a safe, secure, friendly, pleasing and home-like environment.

“At Mary Kay, we believe in helping women improve their circumstances and live their best lives,” said President of The Mary Kay Foundation Board of Directors Michael Lunceford.   “One in four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime and it is our responsibility to support the women’s shelters that aid these survivors. At the heart of The Foundation’s work is the shelter grant program which is actively supported by our Independent Beauty Consultants. We’re proud that our commitment makes such a powerful impact in local communities and in the lives of domestic violence survivors across the country.”

According to the National Network to End Domestic Violence, more than 72,000 adult and child victims receive domestic violence services across the United States in just one day. Unfortunately, in the same period of time, more than 11,000 requests for services are unmet due to a lack of resources.

“Victims seeking safe sheltering are doing so because it is unsafe to remain in their current living conditions and the abuser controls the housing situation,” said Kara Mischke, Community Relations Manager at the DV&SA Center. “This grant allows us to welcome clients into a secure, comfortable, home environment, and meet their basic needs; which is so important to allow individuals and families the time to relax, feel safe and begin the incredible feat of overcoming trauma and stabilizing their lives.”

This year, the center is expected to exceed their number of clients served by another 5-15% through emergency shelter, crisis support services, court advocacy, and counseling services.
